The Men Speak Up: These Are Our Favorite Women's Outfits
We at fashionplazza.com thought it would be fun to take a
couple of polls on what one sex likes to see the other
one wear. Women can tell us what they feel comfortable
or attractive in. Guys can tell us what they feel comfy
and confident in. What we want to know is what kinds of
outfits do men find the most alluring and irresistible
on women? And vice-verse; what outfits do men look the
most rugged and handsome in?
We took to the streets of downtown Chicago and asked 118
men and 114 women what their first three choices were.
The results of the women's response will be published
in an upcoming article. Today we will just examine the
men's responses.
While it frequently took the pollsters a few minutes to
explain to the men that we weren't looking for their "fantasy"
outfits (ex: cheerleader outfit, swimwear, I Dream of
Jeannie), eventually they understood that we were looking
for more traditional wear. Even after grasping our concept,
the men still seemed to have to really ponder the question
before coming up with their top choices. However, their
final answers did fall in line with the idea we were seeking:
1) 57% A combination of tight, form-fitting pants
with an equally snug top on a trim, fit woman. The guys
were often careful in describing this combination. They
stressed that it was pants----not a skirt or a dress.
And the pants are not necessarily blue jeans. They said
a nice close-fitting pair of white slacks showing off
the woman's legs and derriere was a good example. Others
said they could even be the Capri style of pants that
stops near the women's calf. Add to that a snug top---either
a sleeveless sweater with a V-cut for subtle cleavage.
Or a light fabric blouse, again with a preference for
sleeveless to show off a bit more skin. A somewhat casual
outfit without bringing it all the way down to blue jeans
and a tee shirt, or a sleeved blouse.
2) 49% Summer wear in the form of shorts and a
light top. There was a lot of specificity given to the
types of shorts that were meant here. Many of the younger
men we polled established that it was still OK for a woman
to wear frayed (home-torn) jean shorts. Most of the men
over the age of 35 identified a slightly more conservative,
but still sexy pair of shorts that weren't too long as
to hide her legs. The length was generally described as
half-way from her hips to her knees. The top was again
stated to be a light fabric that was short-sleeved at
most. There were a lot of references such as, "The
way she dresses when we go to a friend's BBQ or a ballgame.
Sexy, but comfortable and not her yard-work clothes, you
know?"
No one seemed to want to see a woman in long sleeves with
too much of her natural beauty (legs, shoulders, mid-riff)
covered up. At least this seemed to be the preference
during the summer months when the poll was conducted.
3) 45% It almost seemed like some of the men felt
obligated to say "how she looks in her prettiest
dress". It is a quick and ready answer that typically
was the first to jump to mind when the men fully understood
our question. Then upon more consideration, the second
response they gave usually reflected more thought and
pictures in their mind….resulting in the top two
vote getters. But many men got a mischievous grin on their
face as their mind stirred up memories of how good their
lady looked at a wedding or a recent party. Most made
comments such as, "Yeah, she looks good in this low-cut,
red frilly thing she has" or "My wife has this
black cocktail dress that she wears with her hair all
done up nice and a nice necklace on……she looks
good!"
So in what was a surprising result for most of the women
in our office to hear, the first appearance of a dress
or skirt was the third most appealing outfit that men
like. The female office staff couldn't believe that men
prefer pants to the more feminine dress or skirt.
4) 34% In what we saw as another small surprise,
the "club look" as it was referred to by more
than a few guys, came in fourth place. Other guys described
the same look as the "slutty look". The consensus
was that this is an outfit complemented by heavy make-up
and teased-out hair. It may be a short, leather skirt
with a bra-like top. It may be thigh-high boots or stockings
with a super-short dress. It may just be a tiny, strapless,
leather party dress that barely makes it to the thighs.
Whatever the combination, men seemed to agree that they
like it on the right girl….despite the somewhat negative
tag some guys assigned it. They just weren't too anxious
to see their own significant other on display in that
style.
5) 28% Coming in as the 5th place finisher is the
traditional sundress. Usually complete with spaghetti
straps over her bare shoulders and a flowery print, this
dress hugs the woman's form nicely near her stomach, and
then has the allure of a billowing skirt. The men once
again cited how the look is enhanced by her bare arms
and shoulders with an acceptable area of her lower legs
exposed as well. Respondents described the style as sexy
and feminine without the pomp and circumstance of a formal
dress or gown.
So there you have it. Our pollsters suspect that because
the survey was taken in the summer months with several
examples of the outfits on display right there on the
city sidewalks, many men identified warmer weather styles
as their favorites. Then again, even if it was winter
when the poll was conducted, we're not so sure many men
would identify the heavy, winter sweater look as sexy
and alluring.
